A Personal Commuting Vehicle (PCV) is a new class of vehicles for personal mobility.
First and foremost it serves the purpose of personal mobility and, with a seating capacity of two persons, reflects the requirements in personal mobility of most commuters as well as the average seating occupancy of 1.4 persons in commuter vehicles today.
A PCV is an alternative to standard vehicles, both cars and motorcycles. It combines the safety and comfort of a car with the driving excitement and maneuverability of a motorcycle.
A PCV is stylish, safe and fun to drive – these are the most important purchase criteria when people chose their cars. Style creates the emotions to the vehicle, safety (active and passive) is necessary for a vehicle to be accepted by the public, and driving fun adds as much excitement as does performance.
A PCV is as close to energy neutral as possible, with low emissions and a low fuel consumption. This stipulates an innovative powertrain (hybrid, plug-in hybrid) as well as a low vehicle weight, a small vehicle footprint with a very small frontal area, and a low drag coefficient.
Lastly, a reasonable level of comfort is offered to the driver and passenger: a roof for weather protection, vehicle heating and optional cooling, and no helmet or other personal protection should need to be worn by the occupants.
